Imagine a concert where the jaw-dropping virtuosity and heartbreaking sensitivity of cello soloist Sergey Antonov is followed by the rousing humanism of our old friend Beethoven. Or one where the voices of children meet operatic soloists, and a choir of strings surges with some of Tchaikovsky’s most inspired melodies. Where tunes from the cinema and Broadway provide a backdrop for contemporary music about the state we love. From “yuletide carols being sung by a choir” to a seat-grabbing season finale, each of this season’s concerts offers you an opportunity to share a unique experience with fellow music lovers who value – like you do – live music the way it is meant to be heard.
Just as the physical landscape of New Hampshire is changing – even the ancient and venerable “Old Man in the Mountain” found it impossible to hang on – the cultural landscape of the state is shifting as well. As I begin my second year with the Nashua Symphony Orchestra & Chorus, I am struck by the passion and enthusiasm that this community continues to show for its resident ensembles. People, businesses, government agencies, and foundations are signaling their support like never before.
While we know we can’t be everything to everyone, we are making an effort to fill gaps in educational opportunities and concert experiences where we see them. If you are new to our concerts, perhaps you will see something among this season’s variety of programs that piques your interest and inspires you to join us for an evening (either in Nashua or at one of our tour performances in February 2010).

As you look over these pages, which describe our 2009-10 concert season in detail, I hope you’ll keep in mind some of the things we can’t put down on paper – the thrilling sound of a full, professional orchestra; the moving richness of voices singing from the heart; the intense amplification of joy when wonderful music is shared by hundreds of listeners together – and consider joining us for one (or more!) of these events.
Shared music is the best kind.
