2009-10 SEASON ANNOUNCED!
Shared music is the best kind...
Imagine a concert where the jaw-dropping virtuosity and heartbreaking sensitivity of cello soloist Sergey Antonov is followed by the rousing humanism of our old friend Beethoven. Or one where the voices of children meet operatic soloists, and a choir of strings surges with some of Tchaikovsky's most inspired melodies. Where tunes from the cinema and Broadway provide a backdrop for contemporary music about the state we love. From "yuletide carols being sung by a choir" to a seat-grabbing season finale, each of this season's concerts offers you an opportunity to share a unique experience with fellow music lovers who value - like you do - live music the way it is meant to be heard.

Nashua Symphony's 2009-10 season will showcase vocal soloists
Fans of opera will still be able to enjoy first-class vocal soloists in New Hampshire when the Nashua Symphony Orchestra & Chorus features several vocal soloists as part of its 2009-10 season.
You'll find details of the upcoming season on the NSA website, but here are the highlights: sopranos Barbara Kilduff and Noune Karapetian, baritones Jimi James and Philip Lima, and mezzo-soprano Tania Mandzy will sing with the Nashua Symphony Orchestra & Chorus in a variety of combinations during 2009-10, in concerts conducted by Music Director Jonathan McPhee and Director of Choral Activities Diane Cushing.
"We're delighted to provide a venue to showcase these wonderful area singers," remarked NSA Executive Director, Eric Valliere.

Citizens Bank and the National Endowment for the Arts
fund "Made in New Hampshire" tour
The National Endowment for the Arts has awarded Nashua Symphony Association $15,000 to support a tour of NH by the orchestra and chorus in February of 2010. The grant, which falls under the NEA's "Access to Artistic Excellence" category, is the first such grant that the NSA has received.
"This represents a major show of confidence in our organization at a national level," says NSA Executive Director Eric Valliere.
Mr. Valliere also noted the Symphony's expanded partnership with Citizens Bank, which has agreed to sponsor the "Made in New Hampshire" tour at the $20,000 level. "By any measure this is a significant commitment on the part of Citizens Bank," he noted. "They recognized our potential for success and stepped up to support our efforts. We are delighted to be partnering with them on this huge undertaking."
Performances are planned in Keene, Plymouth and Concord, as well as Nashua. The "Made in New Hampshire" program will feature music that has a connection to the Granite State, either through history (Bernard Herrmann's Devil and Daniel Webster), Peterborough's MacDowell Colony (music of Bernstein and Gershwin), or by presenting the music of living NH composers. Full program and venue details of the tour will be available later this summer.
"The 'Made in New Hampshire' tour is unique in that the music is specific to New Hampshire's heritage and landscape," said Cathleen A. Schmidt, president, Citizens Bank. "We are proud to support the Nashua Symphony Association's efforts to bring the symphony to communities across the state and give residents the opportunity to hear beautiful orchestral music that is relevant and meaningful."

Friends of the Nashua Symphony fundraiser a success

On Saturday May 30, the Friends of the Nashua Symphony (FONS) held "An Impressionist Afternoon" fundraiser that included brunch, music, and art at the riverfront home of Ella and Donald Reape, in Hollis. All told, the FONS - whose sole mission is to raise funds to support the NSA's programs - has contributed more than $10,000 this season, for which we're all very grateful! Join the FONS!

Our 2008-09 fiscal year is nearly over, and by any measure it has been a stunning success. Won't you help us continue our tradition of musical excellence, and of providing unique music-education opportunities for students, by making a contribution at whatever level is significant for you?
Every bit helps, and we're very grateful for your support.
