Music Director Search

The NSA is currently in the final stages of searching for a successor to Maestro Nash. A nine-member search committee comprised of Trustees, orchestral musicians, choral musicians, Friends of the Nashua Symphony and the Executive Director have chosen four finalists from among 133 applicants from around the world.

During the 2007-08 season, audiences will have the opportunity to see and hear each of the four finalists making music here in Nashua, as part of our subscription masterworks concerts in September, October, November, and March. Diane Cushing - Director of Choral Activities

Diane T. Cushing received her music education at Anna Maria College, where she earned the Bachelor Music Education degree. She went on to study conducting at Syracuse University under Dr. Rhonda Fleming as a graduate assistant, where she was Assistant Conductor to the Oratorio Society and directed the Syracuse Concert Choir. Diane earned a Master’s in Vocal Performance at Boston Conservatory, and has been heard as soloist with the MasterWorks Chorale of Boston, Boston Baroque, the Hamilton Baroque Ensemble, the Cape Cod Chorale, the Bach Society, the Neponsett Chorus, the Thayer Symphony Orchestra, the Assabet Valley Mastersingers and the Monadnock Chorus and Orchestra. She currently teaches Voice at Assumption College and Keene State College, and is the Conductor of the Keene State College Choir. She is also the founder and director the the Greater Gardner Youth Choir and The Mount Wachusett Community Choir of Gardner, Ma. She has been an adjudicator for many choral festivals and voice competitions in New England. In her role as Director of Choral Activities for the NSA since September of 2006, Ms. Cushing leads the 80-voice Nashua Symphony Chorus and serves as Artistic Advisor to the Nashua Youth Chorus, a collaboration between the NSA and the Nashua Community Music School.

Royston Nash - Conductor Emeritus

The Nashua Symphony Association's beloved Music Director from 1985-2007, Maestro Royston Nash retired this past season and was awarded the title "Conductor Emeritus" by an appreciative Board of Trustees. A British-born conductor who studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, he served the Monarchy for eight years as Director of London's D'Oyly Carte Opera Company--enjoying considerable success in opera, symphony orchestra and chamber music. His engagements with the BBC have included conducting chamber music with the London Studio Strings and symphony with the Concert Orchestra. In addition to conducting the Nashua Symphony Orchestra, Mr. Nash serves as Music Director and Conductor of the Cape Symphony Orchestra on Cape Cod.
